Planned Parenthood Action Fund Endorses Sean Meloy for Congress

With fewer than 6 days until the primary election, Meloy secures nation’s leading pro-choice organizations, Planned Parenthood Action Fund and NARAL Pro-Choice America

Pittsburgh, PA– Today, one week following the Supreme Court previewed plans to overturn Roe v. Wade, Planned Parenthood Action Fund announced their endorsement of Sean Meloy in the critical Democratic Primary for Pennsylvania’s 17th Congressional District. This endorsement solidifes Sean Meloy as the pro-choice champion and leader in this race.

“After last week’s Supreme Court draft decision that shows the justices are poised to overturn Roe, it’s clear we must meet the moment and elect sexual and reproductive health champions to Congress who will protect access to care, including abortion, and the right to bodily autonomy. Planned Parenthood Action Fund is proud to endorse Sean Meloy in PA-17,” said Alexis McGill Johnson, President of Planned Parenthood Action Fund. “Sean has been a leader on reproductive rights. While some will stop at nothing to elect an anti-abortion candidate, Sean will be the voice and the vote that people in Western Pennsylvania need.”

“At a time when right-wing extremists are attacking reproductive rights and privacy, I am honored to earn the endorsement of Planned Parenthood Action Fund. There has never been a more urgent and necessary time to elect pro-choice candidates,” said Meloy. “For the past four years, I was proud to work at a pro-choice, LGBTQ organization that elected pro-choice champions across the country. I will always advocate for my community and fight against right wing extremism that threatens our right to reproductive healthcare, privacy and bodily autonomy. I’m running for Congress because we need leaders who have been fighting right-wing extremism from day one and for policies that actually help families like mine in PA-17.”

Planned Parenthood Action Fund’s endorsement joins NARAL Pro-Choice America in making Meloy the pro-choice candidate. The campaign continues to gain momentum after recent endorsements from the Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers, the American Federation of Government Employees Local 1916, Congressman Mike Doyle, State Senator Lindsey Williams, the Young Democrats of Allegheny County, and the Steel City Stonewall Democrats.
